Several years ago I was on a year long Law of Attraction course with Eva Gregory, Attraction Coach Extraordinaire. I learnt lots of fantastic tips from her and the rest of my year long coaches but my favourite is the ‘Ideal Scene’.
Its so simple and so effective. The first time I wrote this I was living in Long Island, New York. To be honest I wasn’t in a very good space mentally, physically or emotionally. I had spent the past 3 years at home with my two babies, and was exhausted, and certainly not in flow. It was a desperate lurch to get myself back into the groove and out of the funk I had allowed myself to sink into, so I had an ‘all or nothing’ approach to it, and with hindsight I think that’s why the first year was so phenomenal for me – I had a huge list of things I wanted to turn around including the continent I lived in, the work I was doing, my relationship with my kids, my husband, myself, my diet and well-being, my emotional state, my community….a pretty long list!
So I just went for it, I figured, I have nothing to loose – its only paper and ink
What you do is write the date a year ahead at the top of the page, ie Jan 1st 2011, then you begin “What an incredible year its been!…” or something similar. Then you write about all the different aspects of your life that you would like to see change, it could be your ‘perfect home’, your ‘perfect relationship’ or your ‘perfect job’ and ideally should cover all aspects of your life that are important to you – run into several pages and make it as rich and juicy and exciting as you dare!
Here’s the synopsis of how much stretch I put into mine: (bear in mind I was living in the USA at the time I wrote this and we were settled in a home we owned, my husband was working for a multi-national, and Singapore was nowhere near our discussion list, neither was leaving the US)
1. I wanted to live in Singapore
2. I wanted to celebrate my 40th birthday in Bali with ALL my family, and siblings
3. I wanted to be teaching regularly again
4. I wanted to be doing something worthwhile with my brain again
5. and a whole bunch of personal emotional and relationship balance stuff.
In one year, I achieved all that. Some aspects were different to what I had imagined, and some took slightly more than a year to actualize, but in all cases I saw massive progress. So you can see why I now do this every year!
I think part of the magic is in focusing yourself on what you want, and being honest about what aspects of your life are far from ideal. For example, if you write ‘I had a wonderfully nurturing year with my husband and our relationship just grows from strength to strength’ and you choke on your tea as you write this – then you know you have some work in this area! The same goes for anything you write, ‘my job fulfills and excites me, I created so much value this year with my projects and connections with my team that my boss gave me a substantial raise! I can’t wait to see what this year holds for me’…etc. Just go for it, whatever makes you excited, passionate, whatever would make you deeply fulfilled and happy, get it all down on paper and create some energy around it.
Eva asked us to be very specific, eg, my boss gave me a raise of $20,000! but I have to say that personally I find such specifics limiting, I prefer words like ‘huge’ or ’substantial’ or ‘bigger than I could imagine!’ I also focus more on the kind of feelings I want, rather than the type of ‘behaviour’ I want, eg. I would prefer to write “my children and I continue to develop a loving and fulfilling relationship based on deep respect for each other” as it helps to be my guiding light – when I am shouting at my kids to ‘hurry up’ I can do a quick check, is this ‘loving’ or ‘fulfilling’ or ‘respectful’? This is much more effective at changing behaviour then writing ‘my children are incredible, they are so polite and obedient all the time’ which sort of sets you up for failure right there and then
Once you have your Ideal Scene, then just move towards it, one step at a time, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve in a year!

Our fun Law of Attraction evening gets you thinking differently and introduces you to games and techniques you can put into practice to begin seeing positive change in your life.
The style of Law of Attraction that Elaine teaches is based on Esther Hicks’ book ‘Ask and it is Given’ and is based on the teachings of Abrahams.
The key component that this teaching offers is the power our EMOTIONS play in creating our quality of life.
You are what you think (or more accurately what you feel). What you feel spills out in your words and actions and that, over time, creates your life. Simply by changing the quality of your thinking can change the quality of your life. However, simply changing the way you talk is not going to change much if your emotional life does not correspond. Our emotional state never lies, so by paying attention to that, we can shift our emotional ‘vibration’ much more quickly and we can look forward to a more genuine shift in thinking and action.
If you have played with dream boards, affirmations, and other tools yet found it not effective, try it with an emotional twist – you’ll be amazed at the results! Our fun Law of Attraction evening gets you thinking differently and introduces you to games and techniques you can put into practice to begin seeing positive change in your life.
This technique is very effective for people who want to become the creator and not the victim, and for those who wish to feel extremely excited about life!
The evening is held at The Reiki Centre, 282D River Valley Rd

Law of attraction states that whatever you focus on you attract. People can often mistake this as purely material, “I focus on a red Ferrari”, “I want more money”, “I want to be a size 10” but in fact it is easier to notice how this works in life if you look at it as accessing different levels of awareness. When you are operating primarily out of fear or anger then you get that coming right back at you, when you operate out of joy or optimism, then you get that vibrating back at you.
Take for example five different days when you walk down a dark alley and you see a homeless man sitting next to a dumpster. Imagine you have had a particularly fearful day or you are in a very fearful mood – the world seems dark, foreboding and unkind – disaster is lurking at every corner (you just watched the news!). Walking down this alley is already filling you with unease, you spot the homeless man and notice the likely thoughts running through your mind. “He’s going to mug me” ,“He’s going to rape me”. Notice the level of stress and anxiety running through your body. Notice how tense and upset you feel when he reaches out his hand to you. Likely you turn and run down the street away from him. Imagine the story you would tell your friends and family about your ‘narrow escape’.
Now imagine you have had a terrible day with people you despise, you are in a rage and you feel like you are about to explode you are so angry. Same alley, same homeless man. This time you look at him and what are the thoughts coming to you now – what is the thinking you are now accessing? “Good for nothing”, “Lazy, incompetent, parasite”. He reaches his hand out to you. Do you hit him, kick him – in your mind maybe, if not in reality. There is violence in your thoughts and violence in your environment. You can imagine how that life would pan out if you continued to sit in anger day after day.
Next mood, you’ve had a disappointing day, you’re feeling deflated and hopeless. Overwhelmed and unhappy with life. Feeling small and insignificant – ‘nothing goes my way’. You walk down the alley and see the man. Maybe you burst into tears, see him as a total summary of your life, a sign for how low you’ve also sunk. He holds out his hand and you just shrug – you feel as poor and hopeless as him, what can you possibly offer him?
Shifting up a gear now, you walk down the alley in an optimistic mood. Life is good, you feel happy, optimistic and enthused by life. You feel the universe is kind and loving and you feel very blessed and excited about life. You see the homeless man, what do you do? Sit next to him and chat awhile, share your lunch with him, share a touch of kindness with him? He holds out his hand and you give him ten bucks, or fifty. You smile and it feels good.
Finally, imagine you are in total joy, vibrating in truth and love, empowered. You walk down the alley, you see the man. He holds out his hand, don’t you give him everything you have? Don’t you hold him, hug him, touch him with your love? You walk out and you have blessed another human being with your love. You have gone from me me me to service.
This is the way to change the world, this is the way to make a difference – through your own vibration and not through fear or anger or raging at the world and what it has or hasn’t done for you, to you. Notice the same man in all these scenarios, just a different you. This is a microcosm of your life, you react to every single incident in your life based on the level you are vibrating at, what you are feeling and thinking and your filters. Minute by minute, day by day – your life really shouldn’t be any surprise to you, you created it.
You can change it too by simply focusing on your vibration, how are you feeling today and how do you feel better. There are so many amazing techniques in both law of attraction and the Work of Byron Katie to help you shift up and up in your energy and in so doing in experiencing a totally new level of life.
I picked up the book “Power vs. Force” by David Hawkins, MD PhD, to read again a few weeks ago, and was blown away by the ‘newness’ of the information. It was as if I had never read it before (this is the THIRD time I have read this book). This revelation alone is prompting me to go back over my bookshelf and pull out other books I read over a decade ago to reread them too!
Of course it makes perfect sense that this book comes at me from a totally new direction, after all the book is all about the ‘levels of consciousness’, so it goes without saying that as I progress and grow, so my level of consciousness also changes and I have access to a totally new level of understanding.
At my last Reiki class we had a lively discussion around thoughts, the question was ‘how do we control our thoughts’. According to Hawkins and also new scientists such as Rupert Sheldrake (http://www.sheldrake.org/homepage.html) thoughts are actually always present in the universe – a bit like the entire internet and millions of mobile phone conversations are continuously drifting past and through our heads – the only difference between thoughts and mobile phone sound waves, is that we cannot consciously tune in to mobile phone sound waves. However, the idea is the same. Depending on what ‘frequency’ we are vibrating at, we will be able to tune in to different ‘packets’ of thoughts. If you think of a time when you were joyful and happy and felt on top of the world, it would have been very difficult for you to have accessed an abundant number of depressing or morbid thoughts, same goes if you are feeling miserable and depressed – the higher and more joyful thought forms are out of your range.
The way to ‘control your thoughts’ is really to work on shifting your vibrational level so that happy thoughts automatically get accessed. It is actually impossible to control your thoughts, because they are not technically yours. However if you focus on feeling good and doing things that make you feel good, the appropriate thoughts will follow. Try it next time you are feeling low, go and do something (anything) that raises your vibration (ie something that is good for you not reaching for the double chocolate muffin!), go for a walk barefoot, drink a veggie juice or herbal tea, do 5 mins of deep breathing and just watch your thoughts shift gear.
Hawkins’ ‘level of consciousness’ chart is uncannily similar to Abrahams Hicks (speaker on the Law of Attraction) scale of Emotional Guidance Scale and as with Abrahams; Hawkins recommends focusing not on the top level, but on moving up the scale one step at a time. For example, if you are near the bottom, and suffering from depression, deep rage or permanent frustration, trying to reach for total joy and bliss is not only unrealistic, but also mildly ridiculous (and your brain knows it). So when in depression, try some anger instead. At least anger has an action component to it which means your energy is beginning to move out of the soporific inertness of depression. Any movement, even angry movement, is good at this point.
Of course once you get to the next level your focus is then to move to the next and the next so that very quickly you find yourself climbing out of the negative vibrations altogether and into the positive emotions and therefore the positive thoughts.
Can you do it the other way? Can you focus on positive thinking and automatically shift your entire level upwards? Well yes you can as many positive thinking philosophies and trainings attest. This is because it is all linked, but you cannot reach from ‘I hate my life what’s the point of even trying’ to ‘I love my life and I live in joy’ in a single bound. Again it is a matter of reaching for a thought at the top end of your spectrum (perhaps ‘I hate my life and I am need to change it’) and from this top end of the spectrum you can then reach for the bottom end of the spectrum of the next level eg ‘my life could be better, I need to do something about it’.
A double pronged approach is obviously the fastest for change to become permanent – watching your thoughts and reaching for a better one, and watching your emotions and shifting to a better one. It does all take work, you need to be vigilant, disciplined and willing to do the work in order to see results. Seems pretty obviously but amazing how many of us are still happier to blame it all on ‘out there’.
I was struck again by how easy – yet how hard – applying the Law of Attraction really is. In essence it is the simplest thing in the world – ASK for what you want, give your ATTENTION to it, ALLOW it to come to you. What could be easier?! The difficulty is in every step – the difficulty is in asking correctly, giving it the correct attention, and finally allowing it fully and without reservations.
1. Let’s take the asking bit. Firstly most of us ask for what we DON’T want:
I don’t want to be in debt! should be I want to be prosperous!
I want to lose weight should be I want to be slim
I don’t want this illness should be I want to be in perfect health
Often we make the mistake of focusing on what we don’t want, and unfortunately, with the Law of Attraction, this just guarantees we get more of it! The more we don’t want to be in debt, the more energy and thought we give to the idea of being in debt – the more debt we get! Yikes!! The more we focus on our weight, the more attention and thought we give to our weight – the more weight we get!! Etc. So the first difficulty with getting what you want, is actually knowing what it is you want, then asking for it in a positive way.
2. Giving what you want your full, positive, highly attractive attention! Here’s the stumbling block for many and the embedded Abrahams-Hicks video if a superb example of this. Most of us focus on the negative, we focus on the lack of what we haven’t got and we rarely spend time daydreaming about how fabulous it will be when we have it.
Let’s say we want peace and contentment – yet most of the time we focus on the fact we are so stressed and out of balance. Law of Attraction will keep giving us what we focus on, so we will get even more stress and imbalance. Focusing on what you want means spending time ‘practicing’ peace and contentment. The more you practice, the better you get, the better you get, the more you get! It seems so obvious (which is why I said it is SO simple, yet so hard) but to us it seems mildly ridiculous to pretend something we are not. All the experts agree however, the more you practice something, the better you become. 5 minutes a day practicing peace and contentment soon turns into 10 into 20 etc. Soon you life may still be in total chaos, yet you will remain in peace – law of attraction in action!
3. Finally, allowing. Why is this so hard? Well, think about what you truly want, deep in your heart – then think – do I really believe 100% that I can a. have it and b. deserve it? You’ll be amazed. Michael Losier author of ‘Law of Attraction’ says the speed of your manifestation ie. How quickly what you want comes into being, is directly related to your level of doubt. If you have zero doubt you can have something it comes to you immediately. If you have some doubt if you can have something, it may take a while. If you have 100% doubt you can have something, you never will.
Personally I think this is the key to using Law of Attraction – remove all doubt, and you will manifest immediately. However, as this is a stretch for most of us the great thing is, by making small changes in our use of words and our thoughts we can make big changes in the way we attract good things into our lives.
I picked up this book last weekend and read it in about 2 sittings. It was a REALLY interesting read and I especially liked the way Assaraf used his knowledge of the science of the brain to bring together the esoteric ‘Secret of the Law of Attraction’ and how the brain actually functions.
Of course I especially liked it because it’s what I’ve been saying for years
“You’ve heard the old expression “I’ll believe it when I see it.” But that’s not really how it is.The truth is more like this: You’ll see it when you believe it.In a very real, concrete sense, your beliefs don’t simply reflect your reality, they create your reality.”
He then goes on to very convincingly tell you exactly why the Law of Attraction is so real, and so effective. But what I liked most was the continual call to ACTION.I like this because I’ve seen this so many times with people looking to achieve their goals and dreams – a whole lot of day-dreaming, not a lot of action.People come to Reiki and they are so happy because it’s such an easy thing to learn, but then so unhappy because they have to spend an hour a day, so they don’t do anything, and they wonder why they get zero results.
For me, in Reiki and in anything you want to achieve in life – the first and foremost action is to DREAM big and extend your dreaming above and beyond yourself – what my brother Roger calls the Law of Expansion. From this very real yet imaginary world view you then need to take daily and consistent ACTION on a physical level. It’s a bit like a mountaineer – you ask any top climber and they will tell you they have climbed the mountain 1,000 times in their dreams, going through the visioning every day until it becomes so real it’s as if they’ve already done it.But the reality is – they HAVEN’T done it, of course you know that. They actually have to go out and put one foot in front of the other, AND they have to train daily on and off the mountain.Attraction and Action, hand in hand.
I also loved the FIVE MUSTS of major success; very very true:
You must find something that stirs your soul.
You must become excellent at it.
You must recondition your mind to believe you can have it and achieve it.
You must understand how to make money at it.
You must take daily action When I look at this list I have to agree whole heartedly – if anyone was doing all these things, there is no way they WOULDN’T be successful. To me it would be a foregone conclusion because I truly believe whatever we can dream, we can achieve.
