Master’s training is an enormous personal commitment, both in terms of the actual deepening of your knowledge of Reiki, but also as a pathway to personal growth.  Most people find Master’s training immensely rewarding but few complete the training without facing some challenges.  You need to be prepared to be open minded, committed, and willing to spend the time required for your growth.  Reiki Master training is open to students who have done Reiki Level 2 with me at least four months prior.

The training is divided into four core modules comprising of workshops and homework assignments.  Students can take any number of courses and take their time to complete each level before moving on to the next, or the entire four modules can be taken in succession, which leads to a Master’s certificate.  ALL four modules need to be complete in order to receive your Master’s certificate.  Each Module may be paid for adhoc at $780 per Module, or as a total package at $2,800.

Aims

This training is specifically designed to help you be a competent Reiki Master and is focused on Reiki knowledge, deep personal understanding, presentation skills, and marketing skills as outlined below:

1. Reiki knowledge – each module covers different topics normally covered in a Reiki 1 and 2 class and are designed to encourage you to research and formulate your teaching material.

2. Personal understanding – I expect you to find your own ‘Reiki’ point of view and will often push, prod and ask difficult questions.  Your understanding or philosophy on Reiki does not have to be the same as mine, but it needs to be plausible, coherent and clear.

3. Presentation skills – meeting in a group allows you to hone your presentation skills and get used to presenting the material standing up and to an audience.  A good presentation presence is critical in attracting your audience.

4. Marketing skills – once you complete your training you will be independent and will need to develop your marketing materials and strategy.  Much of developing as a Master is trial and error, but certain key tips will hopefully shortcut the process for you.

The Modules

Each module focuses on a different area of Master training, summarized below.

1.     Module 1: Personal Growth, this module focuses on the Master’s symbol and the heart attunement and is a two day workshop.   The Master’s symbol is also known as the symbol for transformation and is a very powerful tool for personal growth.  As well as preparing you for the rest of the training, this module works on raising your energy vibration, understanding your own power through developing your intuition, as well as becoming familiar with the attunement process and how to best utilize the Master’s symbol.  This is an ideal stand-alone module for those wishing to advance their Reiki learning but who are not planning to teach Reiki at this point.  Upon completion, students will be given a Reiki Level 3 certificate which signifies their ability to give a Heart attunement.

2.     Module 2: Reiki Level 1. This module focuses on the Level 1 class and how to teach it.  This is a two day workshop and teaches the final level 1 attunements.  We also explore more deeply the Chakras and holistic healing viewpoints.  Homework includes presentation skills and you are encouraged to begin teaching friends and family to get experience and feedback.

3.     Module 3: Reiki Level 2. This module focuses on the Level 2 class and how to teach it.  This is a two day workshop and teaches the level 2 attunement.  We also explore more deeply the many tools and how to teach the symbols effectively.  After this module you are encouraged to begin teaching friends and family to get experience and feedback.

4.     Module 4: Building your practice. This module completes your training with the final Master’s initiation ceremony and also focuses on building a Reiki practice as well as higher level techniques to develop your energy and raise your vibration.  To be effective as a teacher you must be able to attract students and this takes both business acumen and personal attraction.  This is a two day workshop primarily designed to stretch you both energetically and creatively.

Homework

Each module has homework attached and moving forwards to the next module is on condition that the homework has been completed.  There is minimum time of 2 months between each module.  In order to complete the required homework, you need to be committed to spending at least 2-3 hours per week on your training in between workshops.  Homework will include a mixture of research, preparing talks, treating and attuning others and personal growth journaling and self-healing.

As part of the training (and not included in the workshop fee) you need to complete a minimum one day Byron Katie training either with myself or any other Byron Katie teacher.  You are also encouraged to meet with your fellow students in between Modules to exchange attunements and support one another during your journey.

Level 2 takes the healing into our own hands (pun intended!) by putting us squarely on the pitch. Instead of spectators we become players.  We learn how to manipulate the energy and transform it into specific form. I.e. we learn how to turn the potential of Reiki energy into energy with a specific purpose.  We can decide ourselves which areas of our lives we want to direct more healing, be it physical, mental, emotional, or to a specific event or trauma.  We become more self-directing and deliberate in our healing journey and so on many levels this advanced training takes us much further, quicker.

Reiki Level 2 should be taken some time after Level 1.  In my teaching tradition, a two month wait is stipulated, this period of time is an important opportunity to practice Reiki and ensure your energy is high.  It is also an important time for self-healing to ensure you are ready to use the tools wisely.  As we become players, we can choose our healing strategy, our ego minds can take control again, and if we are not more awake and aware, we can actually end up damaging our growth rather than aiding it.  Also, unlike Level 1, the progressive Levels require the use of mental energy and as a result can be draining for those who have not been using their Reiki for self-healing.

As with the Level 1 training, there is an enormous discrepancy in the way the classes are taught.  I frequently get calls from Level 2 practitioners who have little knowledge of the tools at their disposal.  Having been taught nothing, they end up with nothing.  This level should be full of possibilities and magic, I am hard pushed to cram all the information and tips into 10 hours of teaching and would seriously question a class of less than 6 hours of teaching time.  Many classes seem to focus o the distance healing aspect of Reiki Level 2, but this is only one of many, many tools available at this level.

For those practitioners interested in taking Reiki to therapy level, the Level 2 training is possibly the minimum standard recommended before professionally treating others.  For other people who enjoy Level 1, there is no need to go further with training, but the research does suggest each stage of training brings even more benefits.

During the Workshop, only one attunement is required to activate the participants to Kundalini Reiki.  The treatments are very quick, just 5 minutes in duration which means a great deal of ground can be covered during the day.  This is a fast paced workshop and we will learn the following:

Students learn how to:

1. Give a Reiki energy treatment to themselves
2. Give a Reiki treatment to others, and other living things
3. Give distance healing to others, and other living things
4. Clear space (offices, home, workshop rooms etc) to provide more balanced energies
5. Clear past blockages such as situations, uncomfortable relationship ties, past trauma etc.

The attunement and meditations are extremely calming and healing so the day itself is a wonderful healing experience and opportunity to de-stress, have fun and learn a fantastic tool for life!

Reiki Level 2 is taken at least 2 months after Level 1.  This period of time is an important opportunity to practice Reiki and ensure your energy is high.  Unlike Usui Level 1, the progressive workshops require the use of mental energy and as a result can be draining for those who have not been using their Reiki for self-healing.

During the Level 2 Workshop, a second degree attunement is given and 3 symbols are taught.  The practitioner is able to use the tools to enhance their Reiki flow, and to develop alternative uses of the Reiki energy.

• The Empowerment symbol – increases Reiki flow as though ‘funnelling’ the energy to maximise flow rate and power.  Also empowers other energy fields.
• The Harmony symbol – allows Reiki to be ‘wrapped’ around other energy fields and environments to increase harmony eg. harmonising homes, other people, incidents, for improved energy vibrations.  The symbol is also used to increase communicative powers, and intuition.
• The Sending symbol – like an IDD number, this symbol allows Reiki to be sent to different energy fields whether they be other locations (both geographical or time), other energy incidents, internal blocks or emotional energy systems etc.  This is a very powerful source of personal growth as the practitioner can directly tune into issues and fix them on the casual plane.

Reiki 1 is the foundation course for activating the Reiki flow in your hands.  This course is ideal for anyone wanting to increase their vitality and energy and reduce stress.  Reiki is so easy to use that it is ideal for lay people who are not familiar with natural health and methods of healing as it provides an excellent foundation for exploring other types of modalities.  The weekend is very experiential with exercises, practice and sharing of techniques and ideas.

At the Reiki Centre we teach the traditional Usui method which requires no belief, religious bias or spiritual background.  Our approach is grounded and thorough and there is plenty of time to ask questions and explore Reiki for yourself.

During the Workshops we will explore the Reiki phenomenon and energy, healing, disease, and our internal energy systems.  The Workshop also has plenty of interactive sessions to practice giving Reiki treatments to get you comfortable with your new found skill.

So Rule Number One in finding the ‘Right’ Reiki Master:
Trust Your Intuition, or more simply, go with the one you Like the Best!

And yes, definitely shop around. There are many Reiki Masters to choose from so there is no need to settle for the one who lives closest or is priced the cheapest. Meet them, talk to them, feel the vibe. Do you like this person? Do you feel a connection?

All of us come to Reiki from a different perspective, a different life journey and a different stage in our own personal development. Every Reiki Master has a unique energy and a unique way of activating Reiki in you. There is NO good, better, best about it. Every Reiki Master contributes to the entire Reiki pool by providing a unique specialism. For example, I teach in a grounded, ‘down to earth’ way with manuals and discussion around the physics of energy. I attract business-like people or people who are entering the holistic world for the first time – I seem to provide comfort in the fact I am not too ‘weird’! Other Reiki Masters I know and deeply respect provide a more etheric quality to the Reiki they teach – they don’t necessarily provide manuals, they prefer to ‘feel’ the energy rather than discuss it, and they may attract people already well versed with Holistic methodology and looking for something totally experiential.

You know where you are on your own personal journey, which is why it is important for you to make a choice based primarily on whether the Reiki Master feels good as opposed to looks good.

What about the credentials? Yes, of course they play a part, but only if it actually matters to you. I am going to touch on some of the different qualities below but please remember, they are for information only (when in doubt, remember Rule No. 1!)

Rule Number Two: Not all Classes are created Equal.

The Reiki Masters length and quality of training will dictate their own length and quality of teaching. Again, this may not matter if the Master can give you what you need in other areas. It may be their own level of personal development is at exactly the right level, or it may be that they can teach you other things not specifically related to Reiki. However, it is worth being aware that there is a large difference in the way the applications of Reiki are taught (especially at Level 2 and above), and so it is worth investigating if your preferred Reiki Master has the level of knowledge you would like. Some Reiki Masters teach Reiki 1,2 and Masters over one weekend, others teach Reiki 1 over a weekend, Reiki 2 over another weekend, and Masters over a Year. What is the difference in the knowledge you will receive at the end? That is a question that may be worth asking. But more importantly, what level of classroom training is important to you?

Rule Number Three: Forget the Pricing

As you are probably aware, there is a huge disparity in the pricing of Reiki Classes; from Free to Exorbitant! Pricing has more to do with the Reiki Master’s preference then the actual quality of the Reiki teaching. Reiki in itself is free, as universal energy we have no right to ‘sell’ it. However each Reiki Master has had to invest time and/or money in order to train to become a Master, and for many it is a source of living income. Reiki Masters charge for their time, and as such it varies greatly!

Some Reiki Masters also have marketing costs, venue costs, co-ordinator costs etc to cover. It would seem fair that a Reiki Master teaching out of a Health Centre or classroom charges more than a Reiki Master teaching from home. Some Reiki Masters feel strongly that their time and energy should be free, whilst others feel that their time and energy is a valuable commodity, and as such there should be an exchange.

Again, it is a matter of personal preference when it comes to aligning yourself with either of these philosophies.

Rule Number Four: Does Your Spiritual Philosophy Jive?

As Reiki is Universal Energy you are hitting the age old question when you ask ‘well where does Reiki originate from?’ The answer you receive will be as varied as the different spiritual philosophies which abound. Does Reiki come from the Universe, from God, or from Aliens? Good question! What does your Reiki Master think? It will be a lot easier for you to connect if you have the same philosophy in life. Sci Fi fanatics rest assured, there is someone out their teaching Reiki just for you! Jive with the Reiki Master’s philosophy and passion and you will be in for a fun seminar. Go to a devoutly Christian Reiki Master as a stoic Atheist and you are in for a hard weekend. Some Reiki Masters teach with no philosophical bias, others have a strong one, choose the one which best meets your needs.

Rule Number Five: Don’t try this at Home Folks

Pleeeese don’t try to learn Reiki by your self out of a book or through the internet! It is just not possible to give yourself Reiki without a Reiki Master present to attune you to the Reiki energy.

And Finally:
To sum it all up, trust your intuition and go with the Reiki Master you like, the one who feels most ‘right’ to you, and the one that you think you will enjoy spending a weekend with. The rest, quite honestly, will take care of itself!
